Cinema

Resources

The CinéNation project provides resources to support scholarly research into the subject of Cinema and Nationhood. Currently these consist of databases of films, filmmakers, and sources of critical writing that are relevant to the topic - select using the sub-menu above. For alternative databases see below.

The reference data may be viewed online or downloaded from the website. The information held in these files will be updated as the project progresses. If you wish to make use of any of this data please use the following citation:

Film Reference Data

A Lonely Walnut Tree

The films listed on the Films page are those that feature in analyses of the way national identity is represented in cinema. The primary index is in alphabetical order and may be filtered by the nation about which each film is principally concerned. The titles of key films are displayed in red. Selecting an entry in the index opens a details panel.

This panel displays the film title, any alternate title(s), and the names of the filmmaker(s). If further information is available about the principal filmmaker, the name will be a link to display these details. The year of the film's release, the country of origin, film length, and language are also displayed.

Where available, there will be a synopsis, selective lists of sources from which a copy of the film may be obtained, and holdings in various collections. If further notes are available on key scenes and references to key critical analyses, these may be downloaded for display in a separate window.

Film Reference Data may be downloaded as an alphabetically ordered Filmography in Adobe® pdf form or as a data file that may be loaded into the bibliographic tool, Endnote®.

Filmmaker Reference Data

Yilmaz Guney

The filmmakers listed on the Filmmakers page are those who have at least one film included in these analyses. Where a number of people are involved in the making of a film, the principal party only is identified. The primary index is in alphabetical order and again may be filtered by the nation about which the works are mainly concerned. Key filmmakers are displayed in red. Selecting an entry in the index opens a details panel.

The detail displays a brief biography of the principal filmmaker (where available), his or her country of origin and a list of film titles for each film that is referenced in the analyses. Again, key films are indicated in red.

Filmmaker reference data may be downloaded as an alphabetically and date ordered Filmography in Adobe® pdf form or as a data file for Endnote®.

The latest update for the Filmography is: October 23 2009

Sources

The Sources page will, in future, provide an annotated online bibliography of critical writing on Film Studies, National Identity, Nationalism, and National Cinema.

Here, you may currently download an alphabetically ordered Bibliography in Adobe® pdf form or as a data file that may be loaded into the bibliographic tool, Endnote®.

The latest update for the Bibliography is: October 23 2009
